Overview…

  • During pregnancy there are multiple things that can occur that your pelvic health physiotherapist can help with. It is not uncommon to experience lower back or pelvic pain, incontinence, pubic pain, sciatica, pelvic instability and more.

We provide a safe assessment and treatment plan suitable for whatever stage of pregnancy you are in. Whether it be your first pregnancy or your fifth, we are here to help.

  • After you have delivered your baby, whether it be by C-section or a vaginal delivery, it is vital to have a 6 week (or thereabouts) post-natal consultation with your pelvic health physiotherapist. Assessing the function of your pelvic floor after pregnancy is important to prevent incontinence, pain and reducing issues in any future pregnancies. An internal examination is usually performed at your 6 week appointment.

  • Breastfeeding is a wonderful yet challenging time. If you are able and choose to breastfeed, mastitis can be a very painful experience. The milk ducts get blocked and cause swollen and red areas on the breast. We perform therapeutic ultrasound which breaks up the blockages and relieves the pain.

  • One of the possible causes of increased urinary frequency is an overactive bladder. We will provide a very specific program, tailored to your situation, to improve your bladder function. Going to the bathroom too frequently is very limiting and getting your bladder to behave is life changing!

  • If you are experiencing urinary leakage, we can help to diagnose the cause and provide an appropriate treatment plan. Simply doing pelvic floor lifts or kegals is not the answer. Your incontinence could be the result of an overactive pelvic floor, and repeated pelvic floor lifts will make this worse. So it is imperative to get your incontinence accurately diagnosed.

  • Bowel dysfunction can be very upsetting and effects daily living. Whether it be constipation, leakage or increased frequency, your pelvic health physiotherapist can help to manage these symptoms in conjunction with your general practitioner.

  • Pelvic pain can be debilitating. Pelvic pain can occur at rest, during the day or night, during movement, or during intercourse. Improving pelvic pain requires a very sensitive and compassionate approach whereby your physiotherapist will identify what the likely cause is of the pain, so you can work together to start reducing it.

  • Prolapse is a scary concept for many people. There are many grades of prolapse. We perform an internal exam (if you consent) to determine what areas are effected by the prolapse. Creating a plan to either correct, improve or manage the prolapse will improve your symptoms and allow you to get on with life as it was intended!

Book an appointment.

We have appointments available online to book. However, we also have additional appointments available if none of those suit. So please call the clinic if the times listed do not work for you.

WHAT TO BOOK?

Your first consultation with our pelvic physiotherapists will often be an hour in duration. We recommend booking a follow-up consultation (30 mins) two weeks after your first consult to ensure you have a spot reserved as our physiotherapists book out in advance. If we decide it is not needed or needs to be moved, that can easily be done after your first consult. It’s better to have a spot to ensure guaranteed continued care.
